'Crazy'

"Crazy" may be seen in retrospect as a turning point in Greyson's career. Two years ago his Label clearly saw him as a Bieber clone (a mega dollar earner), and marketed him as such. Greyson failed to make superstar status, the irony being of course that he was TOO TALENTED for such a role. He just wasn't a pretty dumb boy who someone like Scooter Braun could mould and manipulate to stardom. Greyson was as smart (musically) as his mentors, and confident and personable enough to do things HIS WAY in the studio.

Before the marketing guys really got to work Greyson already had a following in South America and Europe simply by virtue of his YouTube Paparazzi video. These parts of the world have an understanding of, and an affinity for, rock, pop, soul blues etc in the Western tradition. The early fans didn't need to be won over by promo's, they were sophisticated enough to spot a musical genius appearing in Edmond, Oklahoma.

My point is that these fans are still there, they aren't subject to the music industry's manipulation and the vagaries of fashion. I'm one of them. We are all three years older now and patiently waiting for Greyson to fulfill his musical destiny.

Covers like "Crazy" are guaranteed to waken the sleepers, Greyson's true supporters, who will replace the fangirls when they grow out of their obsession with cuteness and move on with their young lives.
